Tropical Storm Erin Increases to Category 4 Hurricane Erin on August 16, 2025

Posted on August 16, 2025

Hurricane Erin is powerful Category 4 hurricane with a classic looking Stadium Effect Eye. Winds are currently 145mph and pressure is down to 935mb. Further intensification is expected.

Erin went crazy overnight and turned into a category 4. It was a tropical storm 24 hours ago. Cat 5 in play. Luckily no direct impact to land in the forecast.

Rip current risk will increase along the East Coast through this busy beach weekend.

Erin will remain a dangerous major hurricane through at least Monday with intensity fluctuation due to eyewall replacement cycles.

Once it starts to get to the latitude of the OBX, the storm will encounter cooler waters & less ideal conditions so it will gradual weaken & begin a slow transition to a mid-latitude cyclone.

We still have to see how close it comes to St. John’s, Newfoundland. At that latitude, Erin will be a GIANT Atlantic storm & strong winds will extend MUCH farther from the center than they do now.
