Temperatures at 5 AM on Wednesday were generally in the low to mid 30s inland and around 40 at coastal locations. Widespread frost is expected for locations west of I-95 early this morning, with patchy frost potentially extending into some coastal locations in northeast FL.
Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories will expire at 8 AM this morning, with a warming trend commencing this afternoon, as most inland locations climb to near or just above 70 degrees.
Breezy southwesterly winds will combine with plummeting humidity values and ongoing extreme drought conditions to create an Elevated Fire Danger across portions of north central and inland northeast Florida this afternoon.
Wildfire Safety Tip – Maintain a Defensible Space: Clear area near your home of leaves, dead vegetation & other combustible debris to reduce sources of fuel. Keep vehicles off of dry grass.
Beneficial rainfall is still slated to impact our region from Thursday through Saturday. Southeast GA is likely to experience waves of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday, with activity then moving slowly southward in tandem with a frontal boundary from Friday afternoon through Saturday.
Rainfall amounts of 1 – 1.5 inches are currently forecast for southeast GA, while amounts across northeast and north central FL generally range from 0.5″ – 1″. These rains may alleviate our wildfire danger for a few days, but will not put much of a dent in our ongoing severe to extreme drought conditions.
