Walton County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Fred Currid Graduates from FDLE Florida Leadership Academy

Posted on August 14, 2025

Walton County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Fred Currid has graduated from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Florida Leadership Academy, Class 60, a program designed to strengthen leadership skills for first-line supervisors in criminal justice.

Currid began his career at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in December 2016, when he was sworn in as a Detention Deputy. Over the years, his commitment to excellence has earned him recognition, including being named Detention Deputy of the Quarter in 2022. He rose through the ranks, being promoted to Corporal in August 2023 and Sergeant in April 2024, where he serves at the Walton County Jail.

The Florida Leadership Academy brings together supervisors from agencies across the state for four week-long sessions of leadership training. This most recent class included 44 graduates representing 42 different criminal justice agencies. Participants learned skills to better serve their agencies and communities, preparing them to meet future challenges with integrity and professionalism.

“Strong leadership at the Walton County Jail is imperative to the care, custody, and control of incarcerated individuals,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “Sergeant Currid’s graduation from the Florida Leadership Academy is a reflection of his commitment to not only his own growth, but to the safety and well-being of those in our facility and the deputies who work alongside him.”

The Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, housed within FDLE and affiliated with the State University System, launched the Florida Leadership Academy in 1990 to provide innovative, high-quality training for criminal justice professionals.

Congratulations to Sergeant Currid on this significant achievement and his continued dedication to the mission of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
