About Washington County, Florida:
Created by the Florida Territorial Council on December 29, 1825, Washington County became the twelfth county in the state of Florida. Originally, Washington County stretched from the Alabama-Florida state line to the Gulf of Mexico and ran about 100 miles along the coastline from East Pass at the mouth of the Apalachicola River to today’s Destin, FL. Through years of reshaping, Washington County’s land mass changed into the boundaries that it encompasses today.
