Multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain are forecast to move through the region the next couple of days. A few strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible each afternoon through the weekend with gusty winds and hail the primary concerns within any of the stronger storms.
Overview:
A slow-moving area of low pressure in the northern Gulf combined with abundant moisture will send several waves of showers and thunderstorms through the region through the weekend. By the time all is said and done, widespread rainfall totals of 3″ to 6″ are possible with locally higher amounts exceeding 10″ still on the table.
While rain chances remain high through the weekend, we do not anticipate it to be raining the entire weekend. However, when it does rain, it will be locally heavy and could cause isolated to scattered instances of Flash Flooding.
The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has maintained a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Excessive Rainfall today and Saturday. There is a Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) for Excessive Rainfall Sunday into Sunday night. Upgrades to the Excessive Rainfall Outlooks (EROs) remain possible as confidence increases with regards to where the heaviest rain will set up this weekend.
There’s also the potential for a few strong to severe thunderstorms Friday and again over the weekend. As such, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has all of our area under Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather for today. Damaging winds and hail are the primary concerns within any of the stronger thunderstorms, should they develop. The threat is then confined more across the Florida Big Bend into south-central Georgia on Saturday.
