The Washington County, Florida School Board met on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as seen below.
Ms. Susan Saunders, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and staff from Kate M. Smith Elementary announced that the district received two “Dollar General Summer Reading Grants” totaling $6,000. Kate Smith Elementary and Vernon Elementary were each awarded $3,000 to purchase books for their summer reading camps.
Ms. Saunders identified the grant opportunity and coordinated the separate applications, collaborating with Ms. Courtney O’Brien, KMS Academic Analysis, to ensure successful submission.
She noted the quick turnaround on the application and emphasized that this “extra bonus funding” will significantly boost the district’s summer literacy programs.
