The Washington County, Florida School Board met on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, as seen below.

United Way Presentation – Ms. Gina Littleton

On behalf of Ms. Gina Littleton, representatives Ms. Brittany Tucker and Mr. Branton Peacock of United Way presented a check to the district and shared information about the Stuff the Bus school supply drive and the Clothes for Kids initiative. Funds collected through donations and grants help provide additional classroom supplies for teachers, and $2,500 has been designated to help launch the Clothes for Kids program to assist students in need. It was also noted that the district is partnering with United Way on an $850,000 grant initiative currently being implemented in Bay County, with plans to expand similar services locally.

Beta Recognition:

Vernon High School students traveled to Orlando in January to compete in a state competition and performed exceptionally well. The group earned six first-place awards, six second-place awards, six third-place awards, a Best in Show recognition, and the election of a student as State Vice President.

Vernon Middle School’s Junior Beta Club traveled to Orlando to compete in the State Beta Convention and earned multiple awards, including several first-place finishes. The club also received recognition in apparel design, scrapbook, and campaign skit events. Additionally, Brooklyn Hector was elected Junior Beta Vice President.

Falling Waters Lions Club Presentation

Ms. Brittany Young, President of the Falling Waters Lions Club, shared an overview of the club’s service efforts in Washington County. She highlighted the Darren Wall Memorial Scholarship, community service projects, support for local students, and vision care initiatives that assist students needing eye exams or glasses. She also noted several fundraising and awareness events that help support the club’s programs and thanked the community for its continued support.

Community South Credit Union Presentation:
The Board recognized Community South Credit Union for their ongoing support of Washington County schools. They have supported the AVID program and hosted opportunities for students to learn about financial literacy. Their Flash Grants and scholarships are currently open to support local classrooms and students. Community South also partnered with the district in providing support for the band directors to attend the FMEA conference this school year. Macy Lee, Marketing Coordinator, presented a check on behalf of Community South.

Former Superintendent Mr. Jerry Tyre was recognized, and the Board approved naming the Vernon High School Stadium in his honor.
