The Washington County, Florida School District Board members met on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, with the following results.
1. Chipley High School senior—and now graduate—Gavin Creel has been awarded the Florida Prepaid Superintendent Scholarship, a prestigious 2-year college scholarship valued at $8,000. Gavin earned an impressive 31.5 credits, including numerous dual-enrollment courses, all while maintaining a weighted GPA of 4.14.

2. The Washington County School District has been awarded the 21st Century Rural Expansion Grant, receiving $500,000 annually for four years to support afterschool academic and enrichment programs for students in grades 3–8.
Dr. Contobia Adams from the Florida Department of Education recognized Jiranda White, Director of Federal Programs, and Jessica Glawson, Project Coordinator, for their leadership in afterschool programming.
The grant aims to help students meet state academic standards, provide a wide range of enrichment activities during non-school hours, and engage families in students’ education. Services include transportation, afternoon snacks during the school year, and breakfast and lunch during the Summer Learning program.

3. The Board introduced the newly appointed principals: Mr. Steve Griffin at Chipley High School, Jonathan Aaron Day at Vernon High School, and Jimmy Brian Tice at Vernon Elementary School.
