On June 20, 2026, a deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation on St. Mary’s Road in Caryville.
The vehicle continued traveling before turning into a driveway. While the vehicle was still in motion, the driver was observed throwing items from the vehicle’s window.
Deputies made contact with the driver, identified as Charlie D. Nettles, 43, of Caryville, and passenger Casey Holland. During the encounter, Nettles advised deputies there was a “roach” inside the vehicle, a common term for a partially smoked marijuana cigarette.
K-9 Maddie was deployed and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert on the driver’s side.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located a glass smoking device and methamphetamine. The passenger also informed deputies that the bag reportedly thrown from the vehicle by the driver was believed to contain methamphetamine; however, the item was not located.
Charlie D. Nettles was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Nettles was transported to the Washington County Jail.
