Weather Experts Opine that Cat 3 Hurricane Erin Looking ‘Raggedy’, Turn to the West ‘Unlikely’ on Sunday, August 17, 2025

Posted on August 17, 2025

Erin is looking a bit “raggedy “ tonight. It’s currently going thru an eyewall replacement cycle.

You can see the current ensembles all expect a hard turn to the north in a couple of days from now. I know it’s frustrating and puts us on edge as it’s barreling closer towards the US coast, but the turn is absolutely confident.

We wonder if it’s possible that it could continue west and defy all odds, but with this storm it’s not. There is now no uncertainty of the high pressure building in stronger, it’s not going to happen.

A wiggle and wobble yes, that’s possible but not a drastic track change. During hurricane season it’s common to have wiggles and wobbles, the storm is now back on track moving West north west.

Hurricane Erin now has winds of 125 mph. Still a major Category 3 hurricane.

Currently it’s going through an eyewall replacement cycle all the while starting to interact with the jet stream ever so slightly. Over the coming days this system will grow almost 3 times the size that it is now.
