Catherine Steverson Owens passed away peacefully on July 28 2026 at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. She was born August 24, 1932, in Bonifay, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Mila Lee and Esther Smith Steverson.
Along with her parents Catherine is preceded in death by her daughter Charlene “Charlie” Owens; her son-in-law, Wayne Carnley; Her siblings Lynn,Leroy,Willard,Madeline, and Ike and father of her children, Charles Owens, Sr.
She is survived by her Children, Shirley O. Carnley, Patsy J. Kirkland (Harold), Robbie O.King (Robbie), and Kathy O. Hanagriff (Jack); and her sons, Charles Ray Owens Jr. (Dawn) and Steven D. Owens (Michelle), her siblings, Pauline Farmer, Corine (Willy) Steverson, Marshall (Geri) Steverson, Maxine (Ed) Bell, and Christine (Jeff) Griffin. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren numerous great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, and by her brother- in-law, Howard Owens whom she raised from childhood.
To so many, she was known by different names, but each one was spoken with love. She was Catherine to some, Aunt Cat to her nieces and nephews, Granny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a cherished friend, neighbor, and confidant to countless others. No matter what you called her, she answered with the same warm smile, kind heart, and unconditional love. Each name represented a special relationship, a life she touched, and a bond she treasured.
One of her greatest joys was caring for others through the gifts God gave her. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and was always happy to mend ripped clothes, hem pants, alter garments, or fix whatever someone brought to her. Her kitchen was another place where she shared her love so generously. Her homemade biscuits, delicious pound cake, pies, and unforgettable dressing brought family’s together and created memories that will be treasured for generations.
Above all, her greatest passion was serving the Lord through prayer where she was a longtime member of Little Rock Assembly of God Church, where she served for over 70 years. She faithfully prayed over her family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers she met along the way. Her prayers were a source of comfort, strength, and hope to countless lives.
While her sewing machine may now be still and her kitchen quiet, the legacy of her loving hands, servant’s heart, and faithful prayers will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Little Rock Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Joe Earnest, Rev. Edwin Bell and Rev, Gary Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Little Rock Cemetery, Bonifay, FL with Sims Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Little Rock Assembly of God Church.
