Regional context

The prices around Chipley are moving in step with broader trends across the Florida Panhandle. Statewide, Florida’s average price for regular gasoline spiked to about $3.96 a gallon in mid-July — the highest daily average since early June — as renewed Middle East tensions and strong summer travel demand pushed oil markets higher, according to AAA – The Auto Club Group. Prices have since begun easing back down.

Even during that statewide run-up, the Panhandle stayed relatively cheap. AAA’s most recent weekly report placed the Panama City metro area’s average at $3.70 a gallon, with Pensacola at $3.74 and Crestview–Fort Walton Beach at $3.76 — all among the least expensive markets in Florida, and well below pricier South Florida metros such as West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, which topped $3.98.

Chipley’s own prices, clustered mostly in the high $3.70s to high $3.90s, sit a bit above those big-box-heavy coastal markets but remain in line with typical small-town Panhandle pricing.

A note on the numbers

Gas prices are crowdsourced and can shift by the hour as stations adjust to compete with one another, so the figures above may already differ slightly from what’s posted at the pump. Drivers chasing the lowest price should double-check with a live fuel-price app or the station itself before making a special trip — the fuel burned driving out of the way can easily outweigh a few cents’ savings per gallon.
