The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted Cottondale PD in investigating a fatal train incident today in Cottondale.
A westbound train was approaching Cottondale when the engineer observed an individual walking westbound between the rails of the railroad tracks.
The engineer repeatedly sounded the train’s horn in an attempt to alert the individual and encourage them to move away from the tracks.
Despite the repeated warnings, the individual did not move and was struck by the train. The identity of the individual will be released at a later time.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Cottondale Police Department for their assistance and cooperation during the incident. Our prayers and condolences are with the family of the deceased. The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
