In the United States a Texas photographer announced she would stop using children’s faces in her advertising after a federal appeals court ruled that privately possessed AI-generated child sexual abuse material that does not depict a real child is protected speech.
She said the ruling, combined with the ease of AI image generation, made her unwilling to put identifiable children online.
Meanwhile the U.K. Home Office published guidance suggesting people “could be arrested” for photographing others in public without permission—an assertion journalists and the National Union of Journalists called misleading and potentially dangerous for photojournalists.

Parents, schools, and commercial photographers are restricting or abandoning images of minors even when the photographs themselves are innocent.
