A Caryville man is behind bars facing drug-related charges following a traffic stop in Washington County.
On August 31, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated a traffic stop on Yates Settlement Road. After emergency lights were activated, the vehicle continued traveling westbound and did not immediately stop. During the incident, the driver extended his arm out of the driver’s window and dropped what appeared to be a plastic bag from the vehicle.
The vehicle continued traveling before turning onto Perry Place, where it eventually came to a complete stop. The driver immediately exited the vehicle and was detained due to his actions prior to stopping.
The driver was identified as 37-year-old Jeremy Ryan Hewett of Caryville. As deputies escorted Hewett to a patrol vehicle, he began yelling, pulling away from deputies, extending his feet in front of him, and pushing backward. After a short period of time, Hewett calmed down and cooperated with deputies.
During the investigation, Hewett admitted to possessing methamphetamine and discarding it from the vehicle. A subsequent search also revealed drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Hewett was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail, where he was booked on charges of resisting an officer.
